Product Highlights
Better Alternative Group Term Life Insurance, provided through Armed Forces Benefit Association and underwritten by 5Star Life Insurance Company, is designed in three phases. Rates increase as you reach each new age group. Coverage continues to age 70 and cannot be canceled by AFBA, subject to policy provisions, as long as you pay all rates due.

Phase 1: ages 18 - 49             Phase 2: ages 50 - 59             Phase 3: ages 60 - 69

Eligibility and Issue Ages:
Member: An active member of the Army or Air National Guard who is under age 60 is eligible to apply for this AFBA Better Alternative Group Level Term Life Insurance.

Spouse: Such Member's spouse is also eligible to apply for this coverage.

Rates and Face Amounts
Better Alternative Group Level Term Life Insurance is available in $50,000 units with a minimum of $50,000 and a maximum of $400,000.



 

With Better Alternative Group Term Life Insurance, you get:

Life insurance: You can provide $50,000 of protection for your family for as little as $4 a month if you're under 50 years of age and don't use tobacco or nicotine products.

Many coverage options: Coverage from $50,000 to $400,000. Based on your individual situation, you decide how much coverage is right for you and your family.

No medical exam under age 50 for up to $250,000 of coverage and up to age 60 for $100,000. Just complete the enrollment form and answer a few health questions. Coverage is not guaranteed to issue and is dependent upon the answers to the health questions.

Take it with you. Full coverage after retirement or separation. As long as contributions are paid, coverage continues to age 70 (After 70th birthday, coverage terminates on policy anniversary date ).

No war or terrorism exclusions. You are covered on and off duty with no hazardous, line of duty, or occupational restrictions.

No occupation restrictions. Regardless of what you do after separation or any health issues that develop in the future, you're covered.

Emergency death benefit payment: Up to $15,000 is payable unless the death is within the contestability period and/or under investigation. If payable it will be mailed to the beneficiary within one business day of notification to help your loved ones with immediate costs.

Optional spouse and child coverage. Purchase coverage for you, your spouse, and children using one enrollment form.

Non-Insurance AFBA Member BenefitOptional spouse and child coverage:

Family Survivor College Scholarship. Your spouse and children are eligible for $10,000 per year, per family, up to a total maximum benefit of $40,000 toward a college degree, if you are killed in a combat zone as a result of combat action, or as a result of acts of foreign or domestic terrorism. (Not available in Virginia.)
