The SSLI Group Life Plans detailed in this website are provided under Group Life Insurance Policies issued to the Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA), Militia Guardian Group Term Life Plan, and the Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA)
Armed Forces Benefit Association’s (AFBA) Better Alternative Group Insurance Life Plan.
This plan is underwritten by Five Star Life Insurance Company.
AFBA was established in February 1947 with the approval of the Secretary of War, Mr. Robert Patterson. The Chief of Staff, General of the Army Eisenhower also approved the establishment of this non-profit voluntary membership Association “to promote the general welfare and economic interests of its members and their families by providing superior benefits and services principally to military families during peace and war." Membership in AFBA today is available to all members of the Uniformed Military Services; Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and other Federal Government employees; Contractor Employees in support of the Uniformed Military Services; State and Local Employees (to include Police Officers, Firefighters and other First Responders); and their families. Today, AFBA covers over 294,000 members with $35 billion of insurance in force.
AFBA’s newest member benefit is named after their former President, the Charles C. Blanton AFBA Family Survivor College Scholarship Benefit which will provide up to $10,000 per year for college tuition (total $40,000) to the surviving spouse and/or dependent children of an AFBA member who dies in a military combat zone as a result of combat action in which the United States is engaged, or whose life is lost as a result of an act of terrorism recognized by the U.S. government.

Militia Guardian Group Term Life Plan.
This plan is underwritten by New York Life Insurance Company.
Provides "basic" group life insurance plan to cover the family. Coverage amounts up to $20,000 for member and spouse and up to $15,000 Dependent Children coverage available.

Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA) 10 Year Level Term and Lean 15sm
These plans are underwritten by New York Life Insurance Company.
USBA is a nonprofit organization providing a variety of affordable group life insurance plans and other financial services.
